Treating the backstage area with respect, valuing the local crew, minimizing food waste, and ensuring cleanliness are essential for fostering a positive environment. Here are ten suggestions to help guide touring crew and artists on backstage etiquette:

1. Respect the Backstage Area: Treat the backstage area as a sanctuary for creativity and preparation. Avoid littering, graffiti, or causing damage to any equipment or property. Keep in mind that many artists and crew members will be sharing this space, so it's essential to maintain its tidiness. In other words : your mom won't be cleaning after you so please don't be leaving a bombed backstage or you might end up sleeping in the trailer. You have been warned!
2. Be Courteous to Local Crew: The local crew is the backbone of any successful event. Show appreciation for their hard work and dedication by treating them with respect and courtesy. Communicate your needs clearly, and always express gratitude for their assistance. F@ck with the local crew ? Not a good idea, trust me.
3. Minimize Food Waste: Backstage catering is a common perk, but it's essential to be mindful of food consumption. Take only what you can eat! Or maybe take a little bit less than you can eat. 80% Full is the ideal anyway, in order to not sleep like a python snake while digesting. Opt for reusable containers and cutlery whenever possible, reducing the environmental impact of backstage meals. ALSO! Don't double dip anywhere. You animal!
4. Dispose of Trash Properly: Utilize designated trash bins for disposing of trash backstage. Avoid leaving rubbish on the floor or in random areas, and encourage others to do the same. This not only maintains cleanliness but also helps the local crew in their cleanup efforts. You really don't want to be remembered as those disrespectful rampaging Mamalukes.
5. Conserve Water and Energy: Be conscious of water and energy consumption backstage. Turn off lights and electrical devices when not in use, and report any issues to the appropriate personnel promptly. Water is a precious resource, so use it responsibly.
6. Keep Towels Organized: Towels are a backstage essential for artists and crew alike. After use, consider hanging up towels on designated hooks or placing them in designated laundry bins. Keeping them organized and clean will promote a more professional and welcoming atmosphere.
7. Clean Up After Yourself: As a touring professional, taking responsibility for your personal belongings and cleaning up after yourself is crucial. Keep personal items confined to your designated area and avoid cluttering common spaces.
8. Scrub the Toilet After Use: It's a simple yet often overlooked gesture of courtesy to clean up after using the restroom. A quick scrub of the toilet with provided cleaning supplies ensures a more pleasant experience for the next person. Nobody likes to clean somebody else's brake marks.
9. Adhere to Smoking Regulations: If smoking is permitted in designated areas backstage, be sure to follow the rules and dispose of cigarette butts responsibly. Be mindful of the designated smoking zones and avoid smoking in non-permitted areas.
10. Respect Personal Space and Time: Backstage can get crowded and hectic, but it's essential to respect each other's personal space and downtime. Don't bring your entire family, girlfriend, best friend, neighbor, kid you know from school and all those people that shouldn't be there.
